Leigh Bromby's departure from Bramall Lane was a deal too good to turn down given the circumstances.
The defender, who wanted to leave Bramall Lane in search of regular first-team football, switched to Watford hours after the Championship meeting between the two clubs
He would have been out of contract at the end of next season and was looking for much improved terms. Despite recent improved form he has not been a regular pick for some time and Bryan Robson explained:
"Leigh made it know he wanted to be playing every week and I couldn't guarantee him that here. I feel that whilst I didn't particularly want to lose Leigh we have got a decent price for his services - it's good business for the Club.
"We have adequate resources in central defence and although we might initially be a bit thin for right back cover if Derek Geary is injured I have got a few players who can do a good job there. And, of course, we can always go back into the loan market should the need arise.
"Sometimes clubs who are not prepared their players to go out at one stage often are willing to once their likely league placing appears to be becoming apparent."
Robson added that similar circumstances of limited opportunities led to striker Geoff Horsfield's loan move to Scunthorpe United, after the experienced forward failed to feature in the Championship this season:
"Geoff needs regular games at this stage of his career and I wish both lads all the best for the future."
Horsfield will be available for the Iron for the rest of the campaign although he will be unable to feature against the Blades next week
