Jon heeds the advice

Posted on: Fri 21 Dec 2007

Bryan Robson has been talking about his philosphy of the transfer window, but reserved special praise for Jon Stead.

Robson has been impressed with Stead's contribution on the training pitch this week, after giving him hints on how to improve his game:

"Jon was falling down on certain aspects within his game, but this week he looks a lot sharper and it's good to get a response from players when you know they can deliver more.

"He is always in and amongst the squad when fit and available. I want him to have that extra edge to his game and score more goals for us."

Ahead of the January transfer window, the manager knows who is on his shopping list, whilst he refused to rule out possible sales:

"You can never say never in football, everyone has their price and you can't write things off at this stage in the season. Everybody is looking to improve and that is what the window is all about."

On the subject of Gary Cahill, Robson is at a dead end and is still waiting to hear back from his Aston Villa counterpart, whilst Sunderland boss Roy Keane has also attended Bramall Lane a couple of times this season on scouting missions:

"Roy has been at a few of our games recently, maybe watching Cahill and Bardsley, but all we can do is wait for Martin O'Neill to make his decision.

"I would love to keep him until the end of the season, but O'Neill will know he can't replace Gary on the cheap."
