Chris on the brink
Blades utility man Chris Armstrong is poised to make his Scotland B debut against their Republic of Ireland counterparts at The Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie on Tuesday, whilst Stephen Quinn is in line to play for Ireland's U21s against Bulgaria at the Lissywoolen Stadium, Athlone.
Armstrong's inclusion comes after former United Assistant Manager Stuart McCall highlighted to Alex McLeish the qualities he can bring to any team.
Owing to Armstrong's appearances for England U20 in the Toulon tournament in 2002, FIFA required some convincing that he should be cleared for competitive involvement with a different country.
Despite this there was never any doubt over his eligibility through his grandmotherm born and raised in Dumfriesm and Armstrong is delighted to be given a break at international level.
He spoke about his big chance: "It's a great opportunity for me and one I couldn't really pass up. Stuart recommended me to Scotland and Scotland to me; it's encouraging to think there might be chances at left-back as that's where I have grown up playing as a kid.
"There aren't many left-footed players around, so there's a tendency to try and push them into being more creative, but defending is my preferred role."
