On the day that Pele ended his stint in Sheffield, Blades chief Bryan Robson confirmed that he believes the Brazilian is the best player the world has ever seen.

Robson, himself a great player, played with and against the best in the world, particularly in the 1980s, and said: "I'm too young to remember him in the flesh, I just remember seeing videos of him in action!

"Fortunately, I met him at the opening of the Manchester United museum and, to me, he was the greatest player of all time, his record is just incredible."

When asked about the merits of Diego Maradona being the world's best, Robson added: "Both are fantastic players but I'd definitely go with Pele."
