The Blades are unbeaten in three matches, despite allowing the lead to slip away in Saturday's Yorkshire derby at Hull.
Jon Stead gave United a first half lead with a controlled strike but former Blade Dean Windass levelled from the penalty spot after Michael Tonge was pulled up for a foul on Fraizer Campbell after the break.
Goalkeeper Bennett was named in goal for his first start of the season as Kenny failed to recover from a bruised shin, picked up at Leicester in midweek. Chief Robson made a total of three changes with Alan Quinn and Stead recalled and Gillespie and Shelton omitted along with Kenny.
Hull recalled skipper Ashbee after a ban and included Windass. Okocha made up part of the home side's bench along with another former Unitedite, goalkeeper Duke.
The early exchanges were quiet - both on and off the field - and referee Mason had few decisions to make. Naysmith, Webber and Tonge combined to win the first corner but the home side repelled the set-piece.
Myhill unnecessarily came off his line to head clear on 17 minutes and could have been exposed but Quinn, who a moment later volleyed wide, attempted a pass to Tonge when a lob looked a good option.
United's first experience of Campbell's pace came on 18 minutes when the striker, like Bardsley on loan from Old Trafford, looked to peel away from Kilgallon after a flick on by Windass but Bennett was well-placed to keep out the subsequent long-range shot.
Hull's front two combined after on 24 minutes but this time Campbell was the provider, turning Kilgallon and delivering a cross for Windass to head over from six yards.
Tonge and Stead were booked for fouls in dangerous positions and from the second of the free-kicks Delaney's flicked header was wide following a Hughes delivery. As Hull threatened to get on top, Naysmith blocked from Ashbee after a Windass lay-off.
On 35 minutes United conjured up the best possible way to stem the flow Hull's attacks - by taking the lead. Quinn spotted the run of STEAD and delivered a 20-yard pass for the recalled striker to slot under the body of Myhill, to the delight of the Blades at the opposite end of the ground.
The goal did prove to slow Hull down before the break. The next chance, on 42 minutes, came from Quinn but the midfielder fired over.
Hull were on the attack in the closing minutes of the half but the best they could do was Garcia's cross which Bardsley headed clear when under pressure from Windass.
The home side did, however, begin the second half in determined fashion. Within two minutes of the restart Hughes headed wide at the back post after a deep cross from Ricketts. Then Livermore hit the wall with a free-kick before Hull grabbed a leveller.
United were caught out with a quick throw and despite being in a difficult position, referee Mason awarded a penalty for Tonge's foul on Campbell. The Blades midfielder had already been cautioned but was not spoken to and WINDASS waited patiently before sending Bennett the wrong way with the spot-kick.
The Blades goalkeeper was called upon two minutes later and did well to drop to his left to keep out an Ashbee shot from the edge of the box after a neat move.
United were let off midway through the half when Campbell appeared between the defence to head wide from a Turner cross and a minute later the Blades enjoyed a rare attack. The visitors kept a Quinn corner alive and after Myhill had pawed out Webber's effort, Beattie headed the rebound wide from close range.
The action continued and on 70 minutes the home side went close again, after referee Mason had missed a foul on Armstrong. A throw-in from the right was flicked on twice before Garcia headed against the crossbar from inside the six-yard box. Bennett may have helped the ball onto the woodwork.
From another Blades corner the visitors looked dangerous again when Beattie rose to meet a Quinn delivery and then, on 82 minutes, the visitors came agonisingly close. Webber got the better of Brown and delivered a cross that took out the goalkeeper but Delaney did well to clear, at the second attempt, with Beattie looking menacing.
Both sides looked nervous late on, not wanting to surrendering a point, although Delaney was forward again to head a Hughes free-kick over on 89 minutes.
The announcement that four minutes would be added brought a roar from the Tigers fans but the only attacking action before the final whistle were four long throws by Okocha, which were comfortably cleared.
