Danny Wilson is hoping United can hit the ground running when they return to League One action against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
The Blades haven't played in the league since the defeat at Charlton Athletic last month and the boss is hoping his players can right the wrongs of the 1-0 defeat at Wycombe in the corresponding fixture in September, where the Blades dominated for long periods but were unable to break the Chairboys resistance after Stuart Beavon's first-half opener:
"You can never take anything for granted and that proved to be the case at Adams Park in September, everyone expected a landslide win for us and if we had taken our chances it would have been.
"It was at a time when we weren't consistently hitting the back of the net and we suffered on that particular occasion.
"Now we are creating even more chances and being more clinical in front of goal so that is in our favour. What we must do again is get another run going and starting that against Wycombe on Saturday will be ideal."
When questioned in his pre-match press conference about a potential backlog of fixtures over the coming months, Wilson was forthright with his opinion that he wants his team to have the points on the board rather than having to chase promotion rivals:
"The games in hand mean nothing, the teams above us have the points in the bag and we haven't had our chance to do that yet.
"If you don't win your games in hand they pale into insignificance because you won't have the points on the board. We now have to claw the points back and must make sure we get a better result than our rivals at the weekend.
"I would take points rather than games in hand everyday because points win the league, not games in hand. The pressure can mount and often teams crack, life is never easy when you are playing catch up."
