Still targeting new blood

Posted on: Thu 26 Aug 2010

Gary Speed is still hopeful of strengthening his squad ahead of next week as the transfer deadline for permanent deals draws closer.

Despite bringing in defender Jean Calve on a year long loan earlier this week the United boss says that he is still pursuing all avenues for further recruitment:

"I hope we can do business and bring at least one more in by the time the window shuts at 6pm next Tuesday. We have loads of lists and names kicking around, too many to remember so it is a good job that we have them written down!"

French triallist winger Francis Laurent played half a game for the Blades Reserves on Wednesday night and Speed hasn't ruled out further opportunities:

"Unfortunately, he picked up a bit of a knock but we will keep looking and assessing him."

Meanwhile, Calve has made a good impression on the manager during his first week at the Club:

"He's looked very good, as he did the first time he came a few weeks ago. He seems to get on well with the lads even though his English isn't great just yet."
