Sheffield United academy director Ron Reid is to take up a senior football position with Ferencvaros - the Blades sister club in Hungary.

He will join head coach Craig Short, the former United player, as senior coach and academy manager.

Reid has been in charge of the footballing arm of United's impressive Academy at Shirecliffe, which has seen many players graduate into the first team.

Chairman Kevin McCabe said: "This is part of the re-shaping of our overseas operation which began a few weeks ago."

A striker with Chesterfield, York City and Boston United in his formative years, Ron moved into non-league to begin his managerial career and served both Worksop Town and Stafford Rangers with distinction. He was also handed the honour of managing England's semi-professional team.

Reid was one of the first men in the country to obtain the UEFA 'A' coaching licence and joined former team-mate Neil Warnock as assistant manager at both Bury and Oldham.
