Debrecen 2-1 Ferencvaros - match report

Posted on: Mon 21 Sep 2009

Ferencvaros came close to springing a surprise on reigning Hungarian champions Debrecen at the weekend.

Bobby Davison's team held a 1-0 half-time lead but were unable to hold on against the team who faced Liverpool in the Champions League last week.

Leading scorer Istvan Ferenczi gave Fradi the lead on 11 minutes when he headed home Joaquin's cross, and the lead was maintained until the break.

However, Debrecen stormed back in the second after and after levelling the scores, almost took the lead but Fradi goalkeeper Balazs Megyeri saved a penalty.

On 72 minutes, though, Debrecen did go in front and they managed to hold on to their advantage until the final whistle, particularly when goalkeeper Megyeri was dismissed after all three substitutes had been used.

Fradi hope to return to winning ways when they face Kecskemet in the League Cup.
