Wardy nicks it

Posted on: Thu 21 Jan 2010

Jamie Ward has beaten off the challenge of Keith Treacy to win the supporters' vote for Sheffield United's Goal of the Year for 2009.

His run and shot at Coventry City on 15th September picked up a lot of lates votes in the closing stages of the online vote to pip Blackburn Rovers winger Treacy who was on loan at the Lane when he smashed home a terrific effort against Leicester in September.

Greg Halford's fine effort at home to Ipswich was also popular but Ward and Treacy were well ahead and Ward's goal has been nominated to the Football League for the Mitre Goal of the Year Award.
