Nick Montgomery and The Lord Mayor were at the Cutlers Hall this week to present the certificates for The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Evening.
Many young people across the city participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme and this is an opportunity for them to be rewarded for all their hard work. Over 200 youngsters received their certificates and listened to speeches from Blades vice captain Monty and The Lord Mayor Alan Law.
Nick Montgomery addressed the audience pointing out that some of the traits required to complete the award were those he as a professional football player needed including teamwork, dedication and determination.
Monty chatted with various award winners including a group of girls from Tapton School who were collecting their gold awards and made a presentation on the night.
'It has been a real pleasure to be involved in the evening. The youngsters have done incredibly well to get these awards and I hope they will continue to be involved to progress from bronze to silver and to gold, ' said Nick Montgomery.
'We were delighted that Monty was able to attend our Awards Evening, he was an inspiration to those present. Our thanks as well to Sheffield United for their ongoing support for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards,' said Norman Gill, Manager of the Sheffield Centre.
Also present at the evening was student Joonas Puolamaki from The University of Sheffield's Department of Journalism Studies organised through The United Initiative. The Blades community programme is working with a number of departments within The University of Sheffield providing a range of opportunities for students.
