A Sheffield United first team player has just lent his support to Remploy as the company celebrated the International Day of Disabled People on 3rd December.
Centre back Kyle Walker, who was born in the city, toured Remploy's specialist recruitment services branch on West Street, which provides a range of facilities for people who experience complex barriers to employment.
The International Day of Disabled People is a United Nations initiative, and is marked in the UK each year by Remploy. This year, the theme was 'empowerment' and, through a nationwide series of events at its network of factories and branches from Penzance to Aberdeen, Remploy was determined to showcase the abilities, rather than disabilities, of disabled people.
"Kyle's support was very encouraging, and appreciated by all those that met him," said Remploy's Justin Hall. "He arrived with us straight from the training ground, and so his efforts were greatly appreciated by everybody."
Elsewhere in the country, MPs, Mayors and Government Ministers visited Remploy's factories and high street specialist recruitment branches. Commenting, Remploy's chief executive Tim Matthews said, "The day was highly significant in the Remploy calendar. It was an opportunity to challenge people's perceptions of disability".
"It is important that those experiencing the most severe barriers to employment are not marginalised even further because of the economic climate. At Remploy we put ability first and encourage businesses to do the same."
Kyle is also an ambassador for equality and diversity within the sport.
