Preston North End 0-0 Academy - match report

Posted on: Mon 09 Aug 2010

United's U18s continued their excellent pre-season campaign, by shading a keenly contested friendly against Preston North End on Wednesday.

Jordan Slew had a goal disallowed and hit the post as United had the better opportunities to force a winner. Connor Martin and Callum McFadzean were also both denied by fantastic saves as the game ended in stalemate.

Academy boss John Pemberton again heaped praise on his young players and says preparations for the season opener against Reading have already begun, although the Blades have added another friendly to their schedule, as they now face Leicester City at Shirecliffe next Friday:

"This was our toughest outing yet and it turned into a proper game. Both teams looked strong, in what was a pretty evenly matched contest.

"We played well and things are coming on nicely, we are creating plenty of chances and the lads are really taking on board what we want them to do in game situations.

"We have arranged a game against Leicester, who are a good side, who did really well last season, so that will be a great yardstick for us before we host Reading in the league."
