A tough-tackling, defensive midfielder, who was converted into a central defender for much of the 2006-2007 campaign, Sam joined United from semi-professional club Worcester City midway through the 2005-06 campaign.

He became Worcester City's youngest ever goalscorer when he netted against Bemerton Heath Harlequins in an FA Cup second qualifying round in September 2005.

During his time at Worcester, Sam featured in the first and second round proper of the FA Cup.
