Chris Wilder reserved special praise for two players following the weekend's impressive success at Southend.

Caolan Lavery, who netted his second goal in United colours in the 4-2 win at Roots Hall, was commended Blades boss, as was Matt Done, who performed admirably when deployed at left-wing back having replaced Daniel Lafferty.

Wilder remarked: "Caolan is a handful, a work in progress and is getting better with every game he plays.

"But we should also acknowledge Matt (Done) and his contribution from off the bench.

"He wants to play as a striker and that's where we think he's best, but he gave a terrific performance when Lafferty was forced off.

"I asked him before the game about if he would play there if needed and I shouldn't have on reflection.

"Matt gives you everything he has every time he plays. He is prepared to do a job for the team, whatever you ask of him."

Meanwhile, following the news that new signing Samir Carruthers will be sidelined for up to a month, Wilder admitted he was pretty relieved.

"Samir came on and was influential as the game went from 2-1 to 4-1 in our favour. In the 15 minutes or so he was on the pitch he showed his qualities, but we were concerned about him.

"He took a big whack on his knee but thankfully following a scan it is quite good news, we certainly feared it could have been much worse."
