Danny Wilson has given a glowing reference to his skipper Michael Doyle and insists experience at this stage of the season is crucial to aid United's push for promotion.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's home clash with Colchester United, Wilson was keen to sing the praises of his designated leader at the weekly press conference.
The Gaffer said: "Michael (Doyle) has fantastic commitment and desire and he takes it as a huge compliment to be skipper of Sheffield United.
"With that mantle comes a lot of responsibility and he will never rest on his laurels either individually or collectively. It is easy to talk about things, but to perform is totally different and 'Doyler' has put what we have spoken about into practice.
"He hasn't let his standards slip and for the last two games, in particular, he has been firmly on the front foot for the full 90 minutes."
On the importance of experience as the season progresses at speed, Wilson added: "We have got a few of youngsters in the team that look up to the established players and now we have more senior figures within the squad, which is a real bonus.
"Experience cannot be ignored at this stage in the season; to have some of the older heads on board will be invaluable as the run-in approaches.
"When you get your better players back you usually see a set of more consistent results and hopefully this is just the beginning of something special."
