The Blades have agreed a deal to sign Dave Kitson, late on transfer deadline day.

Striker Kitson, 32, was latterly a free agent after compromising on his Portsmouth contract to help the south coast and will join United on a contract until 31 December.

On the day that Stephen Quinn and Nick Montgomery left Bramall Lane, Danny Wilson's squad will be boosted by the arrival of the powerful marksman, whose vast CV also includes Reading and Stoke, for whom Tony Pulis paid a club record £5.5m for his services in 2008.

"It is not very often you come across a quality and experienced player like Dave in these circumstances," said Blades boss, Wilson told sufc.co.uk

"It is fantastic that he wants to come to us, which has come about thanks to a connection with the McCabe family, without whom we wouldn't have been introduced. Dave has been to a few of our games recently and our performances have convinced him to join us...he feels he can contribute."

Kitson scored 22 goals as Reading pipped United to the Championship title in the 2005-06 season, including the leveller in the fixture against the Blades at Bramall Lane that season.
