John Cofie and Mark Howard were both pleased with the outcome of Tuesday evening's friendly at Rotherham United.
Loan striker Cofie scored the game's only goal, whilst Howard recorded a clean sheet.
"I got on to the ball, ran at the defender, looked up and managed to float the ball over the goalkeeper," said Cofie, of his first half goal. He added: "Of course, the aim is to deliver more goals - I'm getting fitter and sharper as the days progress and hopefully everyone will be just right when the season kicks-off.
"I enjoyed the game at Rotherham. We spoke about the game plan and I think the Gaffer's style of play fits me well because I like running behind defenders. I want to do well and work hard for the team, that is all that matters."
Howard, meanwhile, says he will continue to push himself after collecting another clean sheet on Tuesday evening.
The goalkeeper played a full 90 minutes and made a number of saves in the 1-0 victory at the New York Stadium.
After the game, he said: "It was a good work-out for pre-season. As a team we have defended well, I've had to make a few saves, but we've all worked hard. The pitch was in great condition and it was a good game."
He added: "I continuing to concentrate on my own game, doing the best I can and keeping as many clean sheets as possible - of course, that is the main aim for a goalkeeper.
"I'm pushing myself, working hard on the training ground and hopefully I will be able to show what I can do on a consistent basis."
