Blades 3-0 Fleetwood - match report
A first minute goal set United up for a third successive home league victory.
Che Adams netted early on and doubled his tally in the second half before Billy Sharp added a third.
Including the JPT fixture, United have now scored 14 goals in the last four home games.
New loan signing Hammond started as did Campbell-Ryce, with Baxter dropping to the bench and
Scougall missing out, whilst the formation reverted to a standard 4-4-2, although it was after the opening goal that most would have noticed that the system had changed!
The official time keeping recorded that 54 seconds had elapsed when the Blades took the lead. A Done free-kick was barely cleared and Collins and Basham helped to recycle possession before Maxwell was unable to collect a low cross, allowing ADAMS to poke home the loose ball.
Despite grasping the early impetus, United were unable to build on the lead. Early on the fixture was fractious with neither side controlling the game. The Blades saw a lot possession but struggled to get around the back of the organised Fleetwood backline and midfield. A corner routine between Adams and Sharp saw the goalscorer shoot well wide.
The remainder of the half followed a similar pattern with few chances of note to report up until the last five minutes. Campbell-Ryce and Done switched wings in attempt to ignite the game, whilst Hammond saw plenty of the ball.
On 42 minutes good work from Adams in his own half set up a break which saw Campbell-Ryce cut in from the left but his shot cannoned into McLaughlin's face, whilst from a Done corner, Collins volleyed over.
In the two minutes of injury-time, Teixeira's mis-control saw Sharp breakaway but Adams could not get a shot away and then Fleetwood's only serious effort of the half saw Howard collect from Hunter at the second attempt.
The second half followed a similar pattern, although the first chance came from the visitors and needed Collins to crowd out Proctor.
Adams almost attached himself to a Done cross and Coutts and Baxter were introduced, either side of a second Blades goal. Again, Fleetwood could only half clear and from Wallace's cross, Done could not connect but ADAMS was ideally placed at the back post to slam home at the Kop end.
With the visitors offering little in response, United continued to boss possession and it paved the way for a third goal on 72 minutes. Wallace again provided the cross from the left and after McLaughlin's slight deflection, SHARP touched in at the back post.
With the game in the bag, the final 15 minutes were little more than incidental, although Proctor came close to converting Matt's cross and Ball backheeled Haughton's cross wide for the visitors, before referee Ilderton put the Lancashire side out of their misery with the final whistle.
