Jay McEveley (hamstring) and Chris Basham (unspecified) are both injury concerns ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
But boss Nigel Adkins hopes Bob Harris (foot) will be available for Saturday's trip over the Pennines, as Che Adams serves the final game of his three-match suspension.
Kieran Wallace is likely to deputise should McEveley be ruled out, whilst Louis Reed could be handed a start if Basham doesn't prove his fitness prior to the weekend.
James Wallace could also come into contention having played 90 minutes for the U21s in midweek; the same applies to Florent Cuvelier who got through over 75 minutes of the victory over Birmingham City at Bramall Lane.
Finally, Ryan Flynn who scored both goals for the U21s against the Blues and Jamal Campbell-Ryce are two other attacking options available to Adkins.
For the hosts, Wigan boss Gary Caldwell might name an unchanged starting XI after the Latics win at Barnsley.
Andy Kellett scored on his first start for the Lancashire club at Oakwell and is expected to retain his place, although Middlesbrough loanee Yanic Wildschut is amongst those pushing for a recall.
One player who definately won't feature is striker Alex Revell, after Cardiff City recalled the experienced marksman because of personal reasons.
